HARDWOOD FLOORING

Natural beauty combined with modern innovations

Hardwood flooring is known for having two key features that set itself apart: natural beauty and durability. It has been used as a flooring product for hundreds of years because of its longevity and added value. At Deaton’s Carpet One Floor & Home, you know you’ll be getting the best quality hardwood flooring around from name brands and Carpet One exclusives.

Hardwood options range from smooth, glossy, traditional strips to wide, weathered planks, creating beautiful backdrops for any style room. Today’s hardwood floors are also milled and finished using techniques that require much lower maintenance than in years past. So you’ll get the character you want in a floor that’ll last.

As durable as hardwood can be, homes with pets or heavy foot traffic should be aware of up-keeping your floors. Hardwood performs best in rooms on and above grade such as bedrooms and living rooms.

Solid vs. Engineered Hardwood: Which is Better?

All hardwood is not alike, some are stronger than others, and some are better suited for different homes. The most common misconception is engineered hardwood vs. solid hardwood. Engineered hardwood is made up of multiple wood veneers with the grains running in the opposite direction to make it more stable, with a real piece of wood placed on the surface. Solid hardwood floors are just that, one solid piece of wood.

Stain

Wood floors come in a variety of colors. From light to dark, the color of your floor can make a big impact on the overall design foundation of your room. Dark-colored stains work well with modern décor, and medium stains, such as honey colored, pair nicely with traditional décor.

Plank Size

Plank size refers to the width of the wood floor and varies between 2″ –7.5″ inches in width. Narrow planks are often referred to as strips and typically have a more traditional look, and can make a small room seem larger. Wide planks typically have a more rustic look and can create a more intimate feel in a large space, usually more suited for spacious gathering spots.

Edges

Some hardwood floors are cut at an angle, creating a beveled edge on the sides of the planks. A beveled edge floor gives a casual look and disguises any unevenness in your flooring. A square edge provides a smooth surface and gives a more contemporary look to your room.

Gloss

The gloss of your flooring ranges from extra shiny, creating a more formal look in your room, to matte, creating a more casual look in your room.

Prefinished

Prefinished hardwood is more durable and resistant to stains and discoloration compared to other types of hardwood flooring. Prefinished hardwood is a great option for rooms with heavy foot traffic.

Hardwood Flooring Restoration and Cleaning

Do you love your hardwood floors but wish they still had the same luster as they did when you first had them installed? Deaton’s Carpet One Floor & Home in Jackson, TN, can help. We offer hardwood cleaning and hardwood restoration services to bring your hardwood floors back to life. Cleaning and restoring hardwood are important steps to maintaining the life cycle of your flooring, and when properly cared for hardwood can last the life of a home. Hardwood cleaning and hardwood restoration are very similar but are also two different methods of renewing the look of your hardwood flooring.

Hardwood Cleaning Process

Before we begin the cleaning process, we’ll ask you to move any furniture out of the area you want clean, but if you are unable to, we are able to assist you as part of our service. After all the furniture is moved, we will prep the hardwood floor by doing a thoroughly clean sweep prior to applying our hardwood cleaner. After sweeping, to ensure the surface is free of all loose debris, we dust mop the hard surface. We apply a pet-friendly and odor-free hardwood cleaner to remove unwanted dirt, grime, and leftover residue from spills.

Hardwood Restoring

For hardwood restoring, we use a urethane finish. It restores shine to your hardwood floors and brings hardwood back to life. It also keeps the wood flooring in better condition, longer, which means less deep cleanings in the long run. This is not a buffing/sanding procedure, which means any imperfections, scratches, scuffs, nicks, etc. in the wood are typically more visible in the restoring process. It is recommended to not have any traffic on the hardwood for 8-12 hours after the urethane finish is completed. Heavily trafficked areas before the urethane finish are dried can result in increased wear and tear in a shorter period of time.

What warranties are available for hardwood Floors?

Warranties for hardwood floors differ across flooring type. To better understand what you’re buying and what is guaranteed, check with an expert at your local Carpet One Floor & Home store. Our flooring experts often have many years of experience and can help you find the best warranty for your flooring purchase.

Hardwood warranties offer the following types of coverage:

Wear
Wear refers to the complete loss of the hardwood flooring’s protective finish. In a standard hardwood wear warranty, a decrease in gloss may not be considered to wear. Likewise, damage due to shoes, pets, or moving furniture may not be considered to wear.

Manufacturing
A manufacturing warranty covers defects that can occur during milling or assembly. Some flooring retailers offer this coverage for your hardwood floor for a specified period of time.

Structural Integrity
A structural integrity warranty typically provides coverage for separation of the thin sheets of wood that are bonded together to form an engineered wood floor.

Installation
An installation warranty can be just as important as the product warranty and covers any issues with the original installation.
